Data sources

SchoolCentra publishes school information compiled from official public datasets. This page explains where that data comes from, how often we refresh it, and how to ask us to correct something. It should be read alongside our disclaimer and privacy policy.

Where our data comes from

• Get Information about Schools (GIAS) — the Department for Education's official register of schools. We use it for core details such as school name, address, phase, type, contact details, and headteacher name where the DfE publishes it.
• Ofsted — inspection outcomes and report information from Ofsted's published open data and reports.
• Department for Education performance data — published school and college performance measures (for example results and destinations).
• Schools themselves — where a school claims and manages its profile, it may add or update its own content, such as policies, term dates, and contact details.

How often we update it

We refresh data on a regular schedule and import updated government datasets when they are released. Source data may change at the original source before we republish it, and derived summaries are simplified for convenience. Always check the original source and the school's own website before making important decisions.

Attribution

Public sector information used on SchoolCentra is provided by the Department for Education and Ofsted and is used in line with the terms under which it is published (including the Open Government Licence, where applicable). SchoolCentra is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the DfE, Ofsted, or local authorities.

Reporting an error or requesting a correction

If you spot incorrect school information, please tell us via the Feedback button on the site or our contact form, or email support@schoolcentra.com. We investigate reports and correct confirmed errors as soon as we reasonably can. Where data comes from an official source, you may also need to ask that source to update its records.
